Israel to expel illegal African migrants

JERUSALEM -- Israel's interior minister says it will take months to expel migrants from several African countries who entered Israel illegally.

Eli Yishai spoke on Friday, a day after a Jerusalem court ruled that 4,500 illegal migrants - mostly from South Sudan, Ivory Coast and Mali - are to be expelled. About 60,000 African migrants have trekked through Egypt to reach Israel over the past few years.

Yishai told Israel radio that tent cities and holding facilities are being built for the migrants. Court decisions are still pending regarding those from other African countries

The illegal migrants have mostly settled in southern Tel Aviv and tensions are high after several recent rapes, which were blamed on the Africans, sparked protests.

Yishai also warned that an influx of migrants destroys Israel's Jewish character.

Featured: Google's Mystery Communications Device Still Hidden in ...

So you may have heard that Google has been very hard at work at producing their next major communications device. It still remains a mystery but we have picked up a few tasty tidbits of information we didn?t know before. First off Testing has been extended till august of this year before Google needs to file it for review with the FCC. (The previous date to end testing was in July) This tells us that we more than likely will hear about it at I/O next month as the testing period will soon be over and FCC filings usually mean that release is on the horizon. Google?s own employees are testing the device of course, inside their homes in 4 major cities around the US as well as at Google headquarters in Mountain View. The testing window was set to 6 months back in January when Google originally filed an application with the FCC for this new device. Details are pretty scarce but we have come to learn a few new things here and there about Google?s most recent hush project.

Google is referring to this as a ?personal communication device.? This sounds like a, well?.. Actually it sounds like it could be anything. But I?m personally hoping for something that pairs with a TV or allows me to control things in my home with android devices.
The device is portable and streams data and content. This is a promising revelation to come across as only wonderful possibilities come to mind when I think about this particular fact. I can possibly keep it my pocket. Or at the very least a bag and I can share content across various mediums and platforms while using this thing.
It has GPS capability, it supports Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and an AC adapter. GPS could mean it might allow for the use of navigation or directions via maps or perhaps just for location-based services. Bluetooth could be one of the ways it?s used to connect and share the content that it will be capable of streaming, and of course the AC adapter means that its capable of being plugged in to charge.
Lastly it can be disabled remotely. This tells me that we should have the capability to connect our android devices to it and disable it at a moment?s notice remotely from where ever we happen to be. While this sounds like a handy feature, I?m not quite sure what scenario I might be in that begs me to disable my device when I?m not at home, other than to just turn it off for the sake of turning it off.

Now I know these details are vague, but at least they shed some light on the whole situation and the ideas surrounding this concept they have floating out there. The sad fact is that the details listed describe many consumer electronics out there these days and it could potentially be anything. We don?t know exactly what the device will do or what it will look like but it?s still exciting. Some of you might think project glass is a good explanation of this new piece of equipment, but Project glass is still very much in the early development phase so it?s unlikely that it will be making a debut on shelves any time soon.? It sounds quite closely to a potential media device that can be linked to your TV and controlled by an android device through an application of some sort. Maybe a Google produced set-top box of some kind?

It really could be many different things. The most realistic and probable type of device this may be really sounds like some sort of media hub though. The capability to stream content over Wi-Fi OR Bluetooth makes it versatile in the way that it can share and a media hub seems viable with those type of features. It makes sense that it would have an AC adapter because the device would need power to work. The one thing that throws off the scent a little is the GPS capability. Not sure why a media hub of some kind would need the use of GPS but perhaps just to geo tag the location of the streaming content? Or maybe to allow the use of maps on your TV? Whatever the case it?s an interesting feature. We all know that android@home was discussed and introduced last year at I/O so it?s very possible this might be the first product we see that carries these features. What do you guys think? Does it sound like google is testing a device that will incorporate android @ home?

Thousands of Algerians immigrate to France every year. An old French colony, Algeria is the second largest francophone country in the world. Although not an impressive number, approximately 50,000 people of Algerian origin reside in Canada today. The country is known for welcoming immigration, but you go a bit further and you discover that, differently for what is jokily said, they don?t beg people to live there, unless you fill in certain requirements. "Monsieur Lazhar" tells not only the story of an Algerian immigrant struggling to get political asylium in Canada, but the story of a multicutural and young country discovering its own identity and, consequently, its own limits and weaknesses. How many immigrants couldn?t repeat Alice?s words? "My school is beautiful. Maybe not the most beautiful, but it's mine. So...At first, when I started coming here, my mom kept saying how nice it was.Personally, I found it ok... But now, six years later, I also think it's really nice. Because it's mine. Both presidential candidates are tending to essentials at this stage in their campaigns.

President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney are crisscrossing the country fundraising and trying to more sharply ? and negatively ? define each other. With five months to go to the election, they're also courting voting blocs they hope to win over and rallying their political supporters.

Ahead are nearly three months of summer doldrums to navigate before the party conventions in late August and early September. After that, there won't be much time to search for money, paint a negative image of opponents or woo the base. It will be nonstop retail politics and three presidential debates.

Obama was discussing college affordability Thursday at the University of Nevada Las Vegas in support of legislation to stop interest rates on student loans from doubling next month. It's an issue that resonates with young voters, a group that supported Obama in 2008 and is trying to win again.

The night before, he spoke at a celebrity-filled Los Angeles fundraiser of gay and lesbian supporters recently energized by his support for gay marriage.

Romney was raising money and addressing supporters in St. Louis, a day after he reached out in Texas to Hispanics, a growing group of voters where he now lags.

And challenging Obama's lead with women voters, Romney has been trying to turn the tables on Democratic charges of a GOP "war on women" by claiming the administration's handling of the economy is the real top issue impacting women.

Recent polls show Romney closing the gap, although Obama still leads overall with women voters.

Romney is also gaining fundraising ground. His campaign said Thursday that together with the GOP it raised nearly $77 million in May vs. $60 million for Obama and the Democratic party.

How your eating habits can affect your children | Blue Sky Health + ...

I was reading an article recently about how our attitude towards food can directly shape your children?s outlook towards food ? for better or worse. ?The article is from a NZ parenting magazine ? Little Treasures June/July, there is no copy online, but if you are interested in reading the full article, please let me know. As a mum and a health and fitness professional, I found this article really interesting and I took a few points from it that I want to pass on, which I have outlined below:

There is a large amount of scientific research that demonstrates ?that we as mothers are the single most important influence over our children?s eating habits and in the case of baby girls, their body image in later life.?
?Like Mother, Like Daughter? is a phrase with deeper meaning than we often care to appreciate. Studies have shown that daughters copy their mothers eating habits ? whether they like it or not ? and that daughters of dieting or food restricting mothers are more likely to diet or develop eating problems.
?Very early in life, children begin learning about eating and foods.? It is usually mum that provides most of the information absorbed by the children in relation to what to eat, when to eat and when to stop.
Weight problems are on the rise and so are behaviours such as dieting, restricting, bingeing and eating disorders, which are being seen in girls as young as six. Not only is rigid dieting harmful to the mother, it can be dangerous for children to be exposed to those attitudes.
Researchers recently discovered that 50% of 5 year old girls in their study, knew a heck of a lot about dieting, and when the researchers looked further, it was easy to predict which girls were diet savvy. They were the ones with mothers who are calorie counting, hogging the mirror and hitting the scales.

As a mother of a daughter as well, this has all struck a cord with me.? I practice what I preach ? healthy eating and exercise is the way to feeling good about yourself. But don?t get me wrong. I do have treats, I do drink wine and I do have days where I don?t feel good. I do it all in moderation.? I like the fact that my daughter sees me exercising and taking part in Fun Runs etc. I never use the word ?diet?, that is why I use the word healthy lifestyle. And I would like to think that I will bring her up that way. Chelsea has a varied diet, and she does have the odd treat ? a hot chip or 2 if we are out, she has tried cup cakes and muffins ? but they are treats.

In this same article, Dr Libby Weaver who is an internationally acclaimed author and nutritionist, has spent a lot of time studying diet habits of children. She has a few tips which I would also like to pass on, which I liked the sound of and will be using these ideas as Chelsea gets older and more aware of food and eating.

Avoid using the words ?good?, ?bad? or ?naughty? when talking about food to children. Teach children that food is how we fuel ourselves, how we get energy to do the things we want to do in a day, like sports, play games and learn. It?s also how we grow up to be big and strong.
Teach children that there are foods that are great to eat every day and some foods are only for special occasions, such as birthday parties.
Teach children that food comes from nature and nature gets it right. Grow herbs or veggies in pots or in the garden so children can experience this.
Stress that sometimes foods come out of packets, but as close to nature as possible is best.
Teach children from an early age the concept of nutrients: they keep us alive. The healthiest food has the most nutrients in it. Do NOT mention calories.
Don?t mention the word ?DIET?. EVER.
Teach children to listen to their bodies to determine when they are full. It?s OK not to eat everything on the plate. Eat slowly; chew your food well to allow the nutrients to fill you up. If you are still hungry go back for more veggies. So many adults have ingrained in their minds that they must finish everything on their plate, even if they are full.
Encourage self-awareness in your child. Does this food make you feel strong and full of energy, or does it make your tummy hurt, tired and grumpy?
Don?t complete about your ?fat thighs?, or ?jelly belly? in front of your child ? you are beautiful to her, so run with that.
If you have eaten too much or something you regret, don?t lament it in front of your child. You don?t want her associating food with guilt and self chastisement.

UK's Cameron, Obama urge action on eurozone crisis

LONDON (AP) ? British Prime Minister David Cameron and US President Barack Obama have agreed on the need for immediate action to resolve the eurozone crisis.

Downing Street said the two leaders spoke on the phone late Tuesday ahead of the G20 summit in Mexico later this month, when world leaders will discuss Europe's financial woes.

A spokesman for Cameron said he and Obama agreed on the need for an immediate plan to tackle the crisis, as well as a longer-term strategy to secure a strong single currency.

"Speed is of the essence," Cameron told reporters in Oslo before meeting Norwegian Premier Jens Stoltenberg late Wednesday. "Clearly the euro zone crisis is the biggest threat to the world economy today," he added.

Cameron is visiting Berlin Thursday for a student conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel and Stoltenberg, where the eurozone crisis is likely to be discussed. He will then hold a bilateral meeting with Merkel.

Cameron is pressing for eurozone countries to protect their currency with measures including greater fiscal burden-sharing among member countries.

I was at a restaurant years ago and asked if they Coke. ?The waitress said yes and came back with RC. I didn?t used to hate it, I just dislike the taste. Now I hate it because restaurants try to pawn it off as Pepsi or Coke. ?If the waitress lied to me I have to guess that it gets by people often enough that it doesn?t matter.

Realtors crack me up. ?About 10 years ago our local MLS had a new rule that you couldn?t manipulate photos, like removing power lines, adding grass. I saw one image that looked like they took neon green in a basic photo editor and try to fill patches in the lawn. It looked worse than anything they were trying to cover.

At the meeting where our principal broker told us about the ?honest photo? rule, one agent raised his hand and asked, ?Does that include 50 year-old agents who still have their college photo on their business.? ?Everyone cracked up because so many agents have photos on their card from before they went bald.

Everyone seems to know that ?charming? and ?cozy? are code for small. ?But what about the house that is actually charming? ?If you see ?Light & Bright?, the agent likely ran out of descriptive words for this small house. ?And the photos that we can take. ?Realtors can find the best angles to make the worst rooms look good. ?I always warn my clients about this because inevitably we walk in to a house and just wonder exactly where the Realtor was standing to get that one shot. ?Some of these Realtors should get a Pulitzer or something.

Realtors around here used to put town homes in the single family category. ?They thought they were clever but people actually looking for town homes couldn?t find them and the people that didn?t a towh house kept seeing them.??They think if they trick you to see a house that doesn?t fit your criteria that you will just fall in love with it.

?Well Betty, I know we said wanted a single level home, with RV parking, and a yard big enough to have the family reunion but my goodness, this three level town house with a postage stamp as a backyard is looking good. ? I?m so glad that agent lied in the listing.?

That has never happened.?

I did a white lie myself in the first line of this post. It doesn?t crack me up. ?It makes me mad and does an injustice to the public and our profession. ?No one believes a charming house is really charming. ?You have people like this in every profession but when it doesn?t get called out and dealt with, more people think it?s just the way things are done. Then the slide becomes an avalanche.

So I plead with all Realtors who do these kinds of things, please stop. ?Misleading or lying about your home just to get it in front of people is stupid. You?re not convincing Betty to get a three level town house, ?Actually focusing on some of the perceived flaws may help sell the home. ?The sellers loved it at one point, someone else will too. China issues travel advisory for India

Beijing: In what is seen as a tit-for-tat move, China has cautioned its citizens against travelling to India following protests over the increase in petroleum prices, after New Delhi issued advisories warning its traders against doing business in the Chinese commodity hub of Yiwu.

An advisory has been posted on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website as well as Chinese Embassy in New Delhi dated June 1 which warned about travel disruptions due to protests.

"According to Indian media reports, many places in India are witnessing protests and strikes due to the recent hike in oil prices. Railways and highway transport have either come to a halt due to strikes or have been impacted to different degrees," the advisory said.

"Some shops have closed. Presently, impacted areas include: Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Patna in Bihar, Allahabad and Varanasi in UP, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa etc," it said.

"The Chinese Embassy in India would like to alert the Chinese citizens about this and request them to confirm their itinerary with related agencies to avoid delays.

"At the same time, during this period, they should be careful about personal safety and safeguard their personal belongings," it said.

The travel advisory came as a surprise to Indian officials here as it was very rare for China to put out such advisories against India in the past on Chinese Foreign Ministry's website.

It came ahead of tomorrow's visit of External Affairs Minister SM Krishna to take part on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit scheduled to be held here on May 6 and 7.

"It was rare to see such an advisory in the Chinese Foreign Ministry website," Indian officials said, wondering whether it was in a way connected to two advisories put out by the Indian Embassy here warning its traders in doing business with Yiwu, in view of three incidents of kidnappings of Indian traders by the local suppliers to settle trade disputes.

While one Indian trader Danish Qureshi was released and sent home two weeks ago, two others -- Shyam Sunder Agrawal and Deepak Raheja -- who was released from illegal custody of Chinese traders in January are stranded in Shanghai fighting their case in a Chinese court.

Their issue is expected to figure during Krishna's visit here.

Also state-run China Daily today carried a feature on Yiwu saying, "No one profits when business is bad" outlining the problems for Indian and businessmen from all the world who are based there doing business for long.

Yiwu is regarded as world?s biggest commodity hub where over 100 Indian businessmen still reside there despite advisories.

Indian businessmen reported to have transacted about USD two billion last year, buying massive supplies of Chinese goods for Indian markets.
